The Amsterdam Centre for Studies in Early Modernity (ACSEM) organises events to support and spur the interdisciplinary interaction and collaboration between scholars who study early modern culture, economy, politics and arts, particularly of the Dutch Republic, but also Europe and the world. ACSEM also edits the book series Studies in Early Modernity in the Netherlands (Routledge; AUP until 2025), and collaborates in teaching, e.g. in the Bachelor’s programme Global Arts, Culture and Politics. Advancing interdisciplinary studies in early modernity, ACSEM offers its members and friends a platform and stimulates contacts between scholars in- and outside the University of Amsterdam.
Co-directors of the Amsterdam Centre are Feike Dietz (Professor in Dutch literature) and Djoeke van Netten (assistant professor early modern history). In the ACSEM team, they collaborate with student members: Bente Tas, Kirsten van Tunen, Tibbe Schreurs.
